The Clover Club
When you think about cocktails in New York, you think of the bars in the West and East villages that are famous the world over. However, Manhattan better watch out as Brooklyn is hot on the feels of its neighbour with The Clover Club, a brand new bar that’s being recommended by, well, almost everyone.

Little Branch
Milk and Honey in New York is one of the most highly rated bars in the world, but with its reservations only policy and unlisted number isn’t exactly easy to get in to. Ran by the same people, Little Branch offers the same dedication to cocktails, in a larger, more accessible location in the West Village.

Please Don’t Tell
A hot dog joint may not be the first place you would head for world-class cocktails. But Crif Dogs on the Lower East Side of Manhattan is a little different. Head for the vintage phone booth and get buzzed through the hidden door, and you’ll find yourself in PDT – a small but excellent bar keeping up speakeasy traditions.

Death & Company
With the heavens pouring down around me, and lightening illuminating the sky every other second, the weather was certainly against me on my first night back in New York following Tales of the Cocktail. However, I wasn’t about to let mere weather stop me from visiting Lower East Side bar Death & Company.

The Pegu Club
The small doorway off West Houston Street that leads to The Pegu Club is easy to miss, with little to hint at what lies beyond other than the neon lit logo of the bar. Once inside though you’ll find a beautifully decorated bar, a dizzying array of spirits, and some of the nicest cocktails I’ve ever tasted.

Flatiron Lounge
On Sunday when I got in to New York I was very tempted to have an early night. However, given that I’ve only got a few nights in New York before and after Tales I figured I should make the effort and head out. After a quick ride on the 1, and a slight detour as I headed west out of the station not east, I arrived at the Flatiron Lounge.

Oh Gosh! in the USA
My bags are packed. My hotel reservations are printed out. I’ve checked-in online for my outbound flight. I’m ready to go! For the next two weeks I will be in the United States attending Tales of the Cocktail and also visiting New York City. Read on for live updates and photos of my American adventures.

One week to go
It doesn’t seem like long ago I was deciding whether or not to make the trip to Tales of the Cocktail this year. Time does, as they say, fly though and with any luck by this time next week I will have done the same and be in the Big Apple on the first leg of my trip to the States. I cannot begin to describe how excited I am!

Bar Hemingway
Located deep inside the Ritz Paris, on the über chic square of Place Vendrôme, Bar Hemingway is without doubt the classiest establishment I have ever drank at. After a seemingly never ending journey through the corridors of the Ritz you arrive in a small and cosy bar, but are the drinks as nice as the surroundings?

Le Forum
Just off Place de la Madeleine on Boulevard Malesherbes sits Le Forum, a modern Parisian take on the classic American cocktail bar. A mixture of new and old, Le Forum ha a cosy environment full of wood panelling, comfortable chairs and ornate stucco which is brought up to date by the young crowd and hip french house music.
Hendrick’s Croquet Competition
The Annual Hendrick’s Bartender Croquet Competition returns to London this week to kick of events for Bar08. I popped down to enjoy the croquet and gin, and finally got a chance to meet up with Stephan Berg and Jörg Meyer, Travelling Mixologists and last years coquet competition winners.

Sank Roo Doe Noo
On a quiet side street just a short walk from the grand Palais Garnier is a rather unassuming neon-fronted bar called Harry’s New York Bar. Frequented in the past by the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Coco Channel, George Gershwin, Noel Coward and Marlene Dietrich, does Harry’s bar still deserve the reputation it enjoys?

Vermouth at 640 feet
This week I’m in Gay Paris, a place that always charms me with the ubiquity of alcohol… cafés, parks, McDonalds – there aren’t many places you can’t get at least a beer. Even 640 feet up Tour Montparnasse you can grab an apéritif to enjoy the sunset with. We have a lot to learn from the continent.
