When you think about cocktails in New York, you think of the bars in the West and East villages that are famous the world over. However, Manhattan better watch out as Brooklyn is hot on the feels of its neighbour with The Clover Club, a brand new bar that’s being recommended by, well, almost everyone.
The last stop in my tour of the finest bars of New York, B♭ is the new bar from the bartenders responsible for putting Angel’s Share on the map. Providing an interesting mixture of both modern and classic trends in the world of cocktails, and with a definite Eastern influence, B♭ made for a great end to my time in America.
Milk and Honey in New York is one of the most highly rated bars in the world, but with its reservations only policy and unlisted number isn’t exactly easy to get in to. Ran by the same people, Little Branch offers the same dedication to cocktails, in a larger, more accessible location in the West Village.

Head for the vintage phone booth and get buzzed through the hidden door, and you’ll find yourself in PDT – a small but excellent bar keeping up speakeasy traditions.
With the heavens pouring down around me, and lightening illuminating the sky every other second, the weather was certainly against me on my first night back in New York following Tales of the Cocktail. However, I wasn’t about to let mere weather stop me from visiting Lower East Side bar Death & Company.
The small doorway off West Houston Street that leads to The Pegu Club is easy to miss, with little to hint at what lies beyond other than the neon lit logo of the bar. Once inside though you’ll find a beautifully decorated bar, a dizzying array of spirits, and some of the nicest cocktails I’ve ever tasted.
On Sunday when I got in to New York I was very tempted to have an early night. However, given that I’ve only got a few nights in New York before and after Tales I figured I should make the effort and head out. After a quick ride on the 1, and a slight detour as I headed west out of the station not east, I arrived at the Flatiron Lounge.
