I tried the Padovani recently with a Glengoyne Single Cask Portwood finish. Even though it has nearly 60 percent by volume (so the melting ice makes it smoother over the time) it was great. Very strong but very very heavy chocolate notes. Amazing.

Hi Jay, great post! I've always found it a bit blasphemous for you, as a Brit, to shy away from Scotch… (especially considering your high regard for Bourbon & Rye). Nice to have you on board—I look forward to reading your tasting notes (:

I wonder how a rotary hand tool like a drimmel would do on that ice. Incorporating power tools into mixology is long overdue.

Nothing compared to your ice Søren! I need some of Hidetsugu's tools... getting that ice chunk using my crappy kitchen implements wasn't easy.

Aleksander - Laphroaig is a very assertive whisky, and very peaty, I would recommend a lighter alternative.

Finally Jay, a drink that I as a student can't afford!

Well, I could break the bank and my student loan....

-But I have just tried it with a sad almost-empty bottle of 10 year Laphroaig and st germain "borrowed" (hehehe) from the parents. Its amazing! Although I think that the Laphroaig may be just slightly over-powering with its rather bolder?/stronger? flavours.

I would try it again with a little less Scotch, but sadly, today is not Whisky Galore.......
