Tiare - I've no idea yet if the recipes are any good. There are a lot of interesting ones in that book though, a curaçao recipe for instance that uses orange peel, mace, cinnamon, saffron and capillare, which cursory Googling suggests is Old Witch Grass? I've no doubt some of the recipes use ingredients that may these days pose threats of death, but I still find them all fascinating.

I was also thinking of that question..(if you had to pick just one)because that is what i`ll have to do for now.To me it looks like i may end up with The Modern Bartenders’ Guide.
Nice pic of the cocktail!

Interesting question Rick. Out of the ones currently available I'd probably go for Harry Johnson's Bartenders' Guide - a great combination of recipes and insight in to the world of 19th century drinks from Harry. I've not actually got the Mud Puddle reproduction as I already own Stephan's edition, but I'm sure it's just as well produced as the others. The Modern Bartenders’ Guide is close behind for me though, because of all the recipes for bitters, cordials and home-made liqueurs. And I can't wait to get my hands of The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks in a few months!

Boozle - using a whisk or a cappuccino frother was discussed while at the eggs session. Everyone seems to have their own method for mixing up the egg, so I guess the key is experimenting and finding what works best for you.

Since you're using the spring to effectively whisk the egg, I'm wondering if it's worth doing just that, using a mini whisk to whip up the egg first? One of those little supposed cappuccino maker frother things that run off a battery might work too, although they are far from elegant. Don't make meringue though...

Jay,

If you had to pick just one to grab, which would it be?
