My quest for Campari-based nirvana continues today with a cocktail presented by Jamie Boudreau at the last Mixology Monday. I originally planned to try the Jasmine next, but not being a massive fan of grapefruit juice, which Robert Hess informs me it tastes of, I thought the following cocktail would be more to my taste. [...]
Over the past few weeks several cocktail blogs have been posting lists of all the alcohol they have in their collection. Despite the jealousy this often provokes in me I do enjoy reading and seeing all this booze. I think it brings out the bottle fetishist inside me – I just love seeing a large [...]
The Dry Martini and the Manhattan are the most famous of all classic cocktails. Most people, even if they have never experienced the joy of drinking one, will have at least heard their names in passing. As Robert Hess recently pointed out, despite first appearances the two drinks actually share a lot in common. Indeed, [...]
A recent darling of the cocktail world, the Aviation is a wonderful mix of gin, maraschino and lemon juice. Until recently that was as good as it got, but now with the availability of crème de violette we can make the original recipe, which provides the beautiful blue tint that perhaps earned this cocktail its name.

A comparison of Fee Brothers West Indian Orange bitters, The Bitter Truth Orange bitters, Regan’s No. 6 Orange bitters, Angostura Orange bitters and Stirrings Blood Orange bitters.
I am pleased to announce that the lucky winner of the Tony Abou-Ganim’s Modern Mixology DVD is Bettina, a regular reader who enjoys Pegu cocktails – never a bad thing. Congratulations Bettina, and thank you to everyone else who entered and commented.
My internet access is currently limited to internet cafés so posting may still be [...]
Certain forces have conspired against me and my plans to perform a comparison of the major brands of bitters, both orange and aromatic. Unfortunately I’m still waiting on my package of The Bitter Truth bitters, and after today I will no longer be living at the address they are due to arrive at. Therefore, the [...]
My previous experiences with Campari have left me less than impressed. I’ve tried both the Negroni and the Rendezvous but have found both of them somewhat overwhelmed by the bitterness introduced by the Campari. However, I’m not one to let a difficult ingredient keep me down – if I was I would never have gotten [...]
